Belarus increases capacities of National Fund of Technical Legal Acts

Sergei Sidorsky: Belarus may take advantage of Azerbaijani radiation safety technologies

Belarus is interested in the Azerbaijani radiation safety technologies, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky said on January 17 during his meeting with Emergencies Minister of Azerbaijan Kyamaladdin Geidarov.

According to Belarus’ PM, the Belarusian and Azerbaijani emergencies ministries have established good contacts and have been implementing a joint cooperation programme. Sergei Sidorsky believes that the cooperation between these departments is important for building up the emergencies potential of the two countries.

Kyamaladdin Geidarov thanked the Belarusian Government for the opportunity to train Azerbaijani students in the Belarusian establishments of higher education. He also expressed interest in the cooperation with Belarus in the construction field. In particular, Azerbaijan intends to purchase Belarusian construction materials.

At present Azerbaijan ranks sixth in the foreign trade of Belarus with the CIS countries. In January-November 2007 the trade turnover with Azerbaijan totaled $81.9 million and grew 2,5 times as against the same period of 2006; the export reached $79.3 million; the import - $2.6 million. Belarus does not export raw materials to Azerbaijan, but mainly high-tech products. The Belarusian export is based on mechanical engineering products, timber, industrial consumer goods and foodstuffs.

Belarus mainly imports agricultural products and feedstocks from Azerbaijan – fruit and vegetable juices, cotton fiber, acyclic spirits, tomatoes, fabric made of synthetic multifilament yarns, binders and various types of clay.

In 2007 Azerbaijan launched the implementation of several joint projects: assembling production of tractors, optical devices and trucks, the joint production of elevators, lifting cranes, solar batteries and other Belarusian technical goods.

The assembling of tractors Belarus at the Ganja Automobile Works helped increase 6.7 times the supplies of tractors to Azerbaijan.

The company “Trading House ”Belarus-Azerbaijan” set up jointly with Gomeldrev and Pinskdrev at the company AzLES has secured permanent supplies of wood-processing products to the Azerbaijani market, joined the wholesale chain and launched the opening of a shop of Belarusian furniture in Baku.

Belarus has shifted to the wholesale deliveries of glassware thanks to the company AzNEMAN set up jointly with Belarus’ Glass Factory Neman in Azerbaijan.
