Andrei Kobyakov met with the Grand Chancellor of the order of Malta Albrecht von Boeselager

Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov on April 26 met with the Grand Chancellor of the order of Malta Albrecht von Boeselager.

The sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation, including ways of enhancing cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.

The head of Government drew attention to the fact that the official visit of Albrecht von Boeselager in Minsk fell on the day of the thirtieth anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. "It vividly demonstrates the indifferent attitude of the sovereign military order of Malta to the problems that for 30 years overcomes our country after this terrible disaster," said Andrei Kobyakov.

Between Belarus and the order of Malta has developed traditionally friendly and constructive nature of the relationship. "The order of Malta to Belarus is a special partner in the international arena, to support and assist in the implementation of humanitarian, cultural and other projects, we hope, - said the Prime Minister. - Wanted particularly to emphasize the constructive role that the order of Malta has played and continues to play in the implementation of humanitarian projects in our country". We are talking about the supply of various associations operating under the auspices of the order of Malta, equipment and medicines to meet the needs of the Belarusian health care institutions, the organization of training of Belarusian doctors in foreign universities and clinics, as well as the program of humanitarian assistance.

"Belarus would be very grateful to the Maltese Order during consideration of the possibility of participation in joint projects in the field of medicine, significant reconstruction of health care facilities of Belarus, including in the most affected from the Chernobyl territories of the Gomel region, - said Andrey Kobyakov. - In case of interest of the Maltese in the implementation of such projects, we are ready to submit our proposals for consideration the Order of Malta".

Of particular interest for Belarusian projects in the sphere of socialization and support for people with disabilities, supply of equipment for the survey of the population living on radiation-polluted territories, reconstruction and provision of medical equipment for regional children's hospital in Gomel.

"On behalf of the Belarusian Government once again would like to reiterate the desire of the parties not to rest on our laurels and continue finding new ways of intensification of cooperation between Belarus and the Order of Malta in areas of mutual interest. I am convinced that with joint efforts we will manage to preserve and increase the potential of bilateral cooperation", - concluded the Prime Minister.

In turn, the Chancellor of the order of Malta thanked Andrei Kobyakov for the warm greeting. He noted that it was his first visit to Belarus and he eagerly awaited him.

Following the talks, signed a Joint Declaration, which enshrines the parties ' intention to develop bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
