BELARUS TRADES WITH 176 COUNTRIES IN JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 2009
The area of Belarus’ trade has expanded since earlier this year. For comparison, in January Belarus traded with 127 countries, exporting commodities to 86 countries and importing products from 118 countries.
In January-September Belarus’ main trade partners were Russia (47% of the total trade), the Netherlands (7.9%), Germany (6.2%), Ukraine (5.9%), Latvia (3.5%), Poland (3.3%), China (2.5%), the UK (2.1%) as well as Italy, Brazil and India.
In January-September 2009 Belarus’ export of commodities to Russia shrank by 44.8% to $4,729 million over the same period last year, with the country accounting for 31.5% of Belarus’ export volume.
The export to the Netherlands went down by 39.5% to $2,618 million. Consequences of the global crisis have affected Belarus’ trade with many other countries. Thus, in January-September Belarus’ export to Ukraine amounted to $1174.6 million (49.5% as against the same period of last year), Poland — $603 million (39.1%), Germany — $634.3 million (99.6 %), Latvia — $1,140.2 million (65.2%).
Meanwhile, in the period under review, the export to India increased by 89.9% to $405.7 million.
In January-September 2009 Belarus’ merchandise trade amounted to $35.04 billion, or 61.3% as against the same period last year. Belarus’ export shrank to $15.009 billion (56.7% as against January-September 2008), with the import down to $20.03 billion (65.2%).
