Belarus to launch production of newsprint in 2008
From January 1, 2008 Belarus is launching the production of newsprint. Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky surveyed the progress in the construction at the Newsprint Plant in Shklov on October 30.
Almost 100% of the technological equipment has been installed at the plant; electronic control systems are being adjusted, the chairman of the Bellesbumprom concern, Vladimir Shulga, told reporters. In December this year, the plant is expected to manufacture its first products under a so-called short scheme. It means that a technology will be adjusted in the shortest possible time. The production of newsprint from thermomechanical mass will be launched in mid December. Thus, the construction of its treatment facilities and the thermomechanical mass works should be completed by December 1, 2007.
Vladimir Shulga noted that all other strategic issues have been settled. The construction and financing meet the schedule, Vladimir Shulga informed. A 60-apartment house for the workers of the plant has already been constructed. A canteen of the plant will be inaugurated in a week.
$30 million to be channeled into modernization of Spartak paper factory
About $30 million will be channeled into upgrade of Spartak paper factory, chairman of the Bellesbumprom concern Vladimir Shulga told reporters on October 30. Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky visited the factory on the same day.
According to Vladimir Shulga, the funds will consist of bank loans, the innovation fund of the Energy Ministry, own funds of the company. The factory plans to buy an up-to-date corrugator, a line producing corrugated boxes and a new papermaking machine with the production capacity of 50 tonnes of toilet paper a day. Due to the new equipment the quality and the output of corrugated board and toilet paper will be increased while the energy consumption will be reduced.
By the end of the year all the documents will be ready. The new equipment will be bought and mounted in 2008. In 2009, it will be put in operation.
Now Spartak produces about 2.5 million square meters of corrugated board, 1,900 tones of corrugated paper, 200 tonnes of toilet paper. The factory also produces wrapping and wallpaper. Over 40% of the output is exported to the CIS.
In two years Mogilev carriage works to produce 1,100 freight cars per year
Within the next two years Mogilev carriage works will increase its production capacities to produce up to 1,100 freight cars a year, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky told reporters on October 30 after a visit to the company during his working trip to the Mogilev oblast.
The Prime Minister noted that Belarus has been setting up a new industry which has been gradually and purposefully developing. Now the company imports the vast part of components, but in the next two years it is set to produce 50%-60% of components. About $35 million will be invested in the upgrade of the company to raise its production capacities.
There is great demand for open wagons and freight cars transporting minerals in the market. In 2009, when the factory will be used to the maximum, the demand for freight cars in Belarus will be satisfied. Mogilev carriage works will also export part of the output, the Prime Minister said.
Mogilev carriage works was registered in March 2005 with 60% of shares belonging to BelAZ and 40% of shares - to Russian capital.
