There are no obstacles to attracting investments in Belarus, First Deputy Economy Minister Piotr Zhabko told reporters after a session of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers on August 19. The session chaired by Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky discussed the results of the investment activity in Belarus in H1 2008. According to Piotr Zhabko, there are no economic reasons in Belarus for failing to meet the investment target which is to increase investments up as against last year.

BELARUS TO PRODUCE EQUIPMENT FOR AGRICULTURAL PROCESSING INDUSTRY
By Resolution ¹27 of the Council of Ministers of January 11, 2006 the Belarusian government adopted the program to develop and manufacture equipment for the agricultural processing industry for 2006-2010.
Òhe program is an import-substituting effort. Designed until 2010, the state-financed program will require Br4,750 billion. Innovation funds and credit resources are to be made use of to implement the program.
The equipment for the processing industry is to be developed by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and industry ministry companies.
Today imported production lines to process pork cost Br1,2 billion. The cost of the analogous equipment will be twice as cheap.

The Belarusian government has stepped up regulations for selling products, which contain genetically modified components, and has amended relevant retail trade regulations. Information about gengineered components in food will now be available on price tags. The decision is laid down by the Council of Ministers’ resolution No 1115 of August 4.
