GOVERNMENT APPROVES LIVING WAGE ON AVERAGE PER CAPITA FOR EVERY SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC GROUP
By resolution #90 of January 25 the Council of Ministers of Belarus has approved the living wage on average per capita for every socio-economic group in the prices of December 2005 for one month. The validity period of this social standard – from February to April 2006.
The living wage on average per capita will make Br158,120. This index makes Br174,410 for the able-bodied citizens of the republic, Br140,120 – for pensioners, Br166,560 – for students, Br182,190 – for children aged between 3 and 16, Br131,840 – for children under three.
Òhe living wage approved was 4.9 per cent more than the one valid from November 1, 2005 to January 31,2006.
In line with the law “On living wage in the Republic of Belarus” this social standard is approved on a quarterly basis by the government in the prices of the last month of every quarter. It is designed to help analyze and forecast the living standards, to render state social aid to low-income families, to calculate minimum state social-labour guarantees. The living wage is used to assess the level of incomes of people, pensions, benefits and other social payments, to define the level and scope of poverty.
The living wage for various socio-demographic groups includes such material benefits and services as: foodstuffs, clothes, footwear, medicines, hygienic things and also housing-municipal, transport and consumer services, services of preschool establishments. The amount of every service and benefit is determined on the basis of the consumption norms developed by scientists and specialists of corresponding ministries and other republican state management bodies and also experts of the associations of employers and trade unions.
