COORDINATION COUNCIL FOR PREVENTING VIRUS PENETRATION TO BE SET UP IN BELARUS

An interagency coordination council for protecting the Belarusian territory from virus penetration and spreading will be set up in Belarus. The decision contains in Resolution No 640 of the Council of Ministers.

The council will be set up to coordinate the activity of protecting the territory of Belarus from penetrating and spreading virus diseases, elaborate a system of measures to improve readiness of the country for a possible pandemics.

The major goals of the coordination council are to define priorities in the implementation of the major protection trends, coordinate the joint activity of the governmental bodies in the protection issues.

The coordination council is expected to cooperate with the neighbouring countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Russia) to address urgent issues in protection of Belarus from virus diseases, to monitor the implementation of its decisions.

Sessions of the interagency coordination council will be carried as and when necessary, making allowances for the epidemiological and epizootic situation in Belarus and in the neighbouring countries. Organisational and information support will be provided by the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Ivan Bambiza has been appointed chairman of the council. His deputies are Deputy Health Minister – chief state sanitary doctor Valentina Kachan and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasily Sedin. The interagency coordination council will engage representatives of the national government bodies and other organisations subordinate to the government, local authorities, scientific and civic organisations.

The resolution comes into force on the day of its official promulgation.
