Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich met with Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh of the Arab Republic of Egypt to discuss cooperation between the two countries.
Viktor Karankevich noted that relations between Belarus and Egypt are friendly, especially at the level of the countries’ leaders, which serves as a strong driver for developing trade and economic ties. Official visits of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Egypt took place in June 1998, January 2017, and February 2020. In June 2019, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi visited Belarus. In April 2024, Belarus’ Prime Minister visited Egypt.
“Egypt has received a proposal on the terms for setting up and operating assembly facilities for Belarusian cargo and tractor equipment, as well as a concept for Belarusian participation in a project to establish a grain and feed hub in Egypt. The two countries have also agreed on deliveries of Belarusian dairy products, MTZ tractors, MAZ trucks, tires, pulp and cottonized fiber, and construction supplies. Projects in pharmaceuticals, water purification, and solid waste processing are already in progress,” Viktor Karankevich said.
Belarus also welcomes the involvement of the Egyptian airline Air Cairo in exploring the possibility of launching direct regular flights between Minsk and Cairo. “We will provide the most favorable environment for operating such flights,” Viktor Karankevich stressed.
The two sides support each other on the international stage. In 2026, preparations are underway for the first meeting of the High-Level Commission on Bilateral Cooperation and Political Dialogue between Belarus and Egypt at the level of foreign ministers, as well as the 4th meeting of the Belarusian-Egyptian Working Group on Industrial Cooperation.
“I am confident that the agreements reached during these visits and the upcoming meetings will allow us to significantly increase trade and economic and strengthen our relations in all areas,” Viktor Karankevich said.
Mohamed Farid Saleh suggested that Belarusian manufacturers of cargo vehicles and tractors use Egypt as a hub for exporting their products to Africa and the Middle East.
“Thank you for your warm welcome. This is truly a very friendly city and country,” Mohamed Farid Saleh noted.
According to him, the Egyptian delegation worked productively in Belarus for two days. “I believe that investments will be the most important factor in developing trade relations,” he said. “We admire your experience in modernizing power grids, something we are currently working on in Egypt as well. I would be grateful if I could turn to your expertise for joint cooperation.”
The delegation from the Arab Republic of Egypt is visiting Belarus on 4-8 May.
