Belarus, Indonesia discuss joint projects in key sectors

During a working visit to Indonesia, Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich met with Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. At the meeting, the parties outlined promising areas of cooperation.

Indonesia has achieved significant progress on its path of national development, the deputy prime minister noted. “The rapid economic growth and the rising international standing of your country are the result of the efforts of the Indonesian people, who are moving forward in line with the foreign policy course set by the president. Today, Indonesia is not only expanding its economy but also accelerating overall development,” Viktor Karankevich said. “Comprehensive cooperation with Indonesia remains an unquestionable priority of Belarus’ foreign policy and economy. Without exaggeration, 2025 can be called a historic year. The visit of esteemed President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia to the Republic of Belarus gave a strong impetus to the development of our relations. The meeting at the level of heads of state took place in a friendly and warm atmosphere. We reaffirmed our mutual interest and agreed on future areas of cooperation.”

Viktor Karankevich also conveyed words of sympathy and support from the Belarusian people in connection with the consequences of the natural disasters on the island of Sumatra. “We sincerely wish all residents of the island a speady recovery and a return to normal life,” he said.

The parties met for the first time in their new capacity as co-chairs of the Belarus-Indonesia intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation. “For our part, we are committed to implementing all plans and agreements reached at the highest level. At this meeting, we will discuss various areas: from trade and the economy to technical cooperation. We reaffirm our readiness to put all previously agreed decisions into practice,” Viktor Karankevich stated.

The co-chairs of the Belarus-Indonesia intergovernmental commission discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation. Plans were outlined to implement projects in agriculture, manufacturing, education, medicine, tourism and other areas of mutual interest.

The parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission in the near future.
